In July 2025, the global silicone industry reached a milestone event - a company in Shandong announced the official launch of the world's first 10000 ton bio based silicone rubber production line. This production line adopts the high activity silane technology developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which uses agricultural waste rice husks as raw materials and replaces traditional petroleum based routes through biocatalytic processes to achieve zero carbon footprint in the entire process of silicone rubber production.

Technological breakthroughs and industrial significance
According to the "High end Organosilicon Domestic Replacement Roadmap" released by China Research and Development Corporation, this technology optimizes the siloxane chain structure through molecular design, achieving international leading levels in key indicators such as tensile strength and temperature resistance of bio based silicone rubber, while reducing production costs by 15% compared to petroleum based routes. The project leader stated, "For every 10000 tons of bio based silicone rubber produced, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 32000 tons, equivalent to planting 1.8 million trees

Market response and industry impact
The "carbon footprint tracing" investigation launched by the European Union at the same time has put forward full lifecycle carbon emission accounting requirements for imported photovoltaic adhesive products, directly promoting domestic enterprises to accelerate the layout of green production capacity. In the first month of production, the Shandong production line received orders from European photovoltaic giants, marking the transformation of China's organic silicon industry from "leading in scale" to "leading in both technology and ecology".

Policy and capital linkage
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's "15th Five Year Plan for High Quality Development of New Materials Industry" clearly lists biobased silicon materials as a strategic emerging industry. The National Manufacturing Fund has injected 2 billion yuan into relevant enterprises to support their construction of Brazilian sugarcane based methanol projects and solve the price linkage dilemma of "methanol metal silicon". Industry analysts point out that by 2030, bio based silicon materials will occupy a 20% share of the global organic silicon market, with a compound annual growth rate of 18%.
