Explosive growth in demand for organic silicon materials, emerging application areas becoming new engines for industry growth

In the third quarter of 2025, China's silicone industry will undergo a structural change in demand. According to the latest customs data, the export volume of primary form polysiloxane of organosilicon increased by 3.66% month on month in August, while the import volume decreased by 23.16% year-on-year, indicating a significant improvement in the self-sufficiency rate of domestic high-end products. Industry analysts point out that this change is due to the explosive demand for organic silicon materials in emerging fields such as new energy vehicles, photovoltaics, and electronic appliances.


In the field of new energy vehicles, the usage of silicone gel per vehicle has surged from 2.5 kilograms for traditional fuel vehicles to 20 kilograms, driving the annual growth rate of segmented markets such as battery pack sealant and thermal conductive silicone grease to 44.2%. The liquid silicone rubber (LSR) developed by a leading enterprise has passed UL94 V-0 flame retardant certification, and its thermal conductivity has been increased from 0.2W/m · K to 1.5W/m · K, successfully replacing imported products for power battery packaging.


The photovoltaic industry is also showing strong performance. The European Photovoltaic Industry Association predicts that the global annual new photovoltaic installed capacity will reach 930GW in 2029, with an average annual compound growth rate of 15%, directly driving the demand for photovoltaic packaging adhesives in the market. Domestic enterprises have expanded their packaging adhesive production capacity by 300% within two years through the vertical integration model of "silicone rubber products", reducing costs by 20% compared to imported products.


More noteworthy is that cutting-edge fields such as humanoid robots and liquid cooled cooling fluids for computing power centers are becoming a new blue ocean for organic silicon consumption. By 2025, the consumption growth rate of these emerging application areas is expected to reach 30%, among which the shape memory silicone rubber artificial muscle developed by a certain enterprise has entered the commercialization stage, with a single robot using 5 kilograms of silicone.


Industry institutions predict that the size of China's organic silicon market will expand at a compound annual growth rate of 7.5% from 2025 to 2030, and exceed 200 billion yuan by 2030. With breakthroughs in core technologies such as molecular design and composite modification, the proportion of high-end products will increase from 30% in 2025 to 55% in 2030, driving the industry's transformation from "scale expansion" to "value upgrading".
