In November 2025, as China's aerospace industry enters a new stage of deep space exploration, ethyl silicone oil, with its extreme environmental adaptability, will achieve significant technological breakthroughs in the fields of spacecraft thermal control systems and sealing materials, accelerating the process of domestic high-end material localization.
The 'Temperature Guardian' in Deep Space Exploration
In the thermal control system of the Mars rover, ethyl silicone oil is used as a phase change thermal conductive material, successfully solving the thermal management problem under extreme temperature differences (the day night temperature difference on the Martian surface exceeds 150 β). Its unique phase transition characteristics can absorb and store heat when the temperature increases, and release heat when the temperature decreases, keeping the internal equipment of the detector at a stable operating temperature. China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) has disclosed that the latest developed ethyl silicone oil based composite phase change material has a thermal conductivity efficiency that is 40% higher than traditional materials. It has been applied to the thermal control module of the Tianwen-3 Mars rover, helping the probe operate in the polar environment of Mars for a long time.
Aircraft Engine Sealing Revolution
In the field of aviation engines, ethyl silicone oil, as a high-performance sealant, has broken through the performance bottleneck of traditional rubber materials in high temperature (above 300 β) and fuel corrosion environments. A certain aviation engine company has developed a high-temperature resistant sealing coating by combining ethyl silicone oil with nano ceramic fibers, reducing the leakage rate of the engine fuel system to below 0.001%. This technology has passed the C919 domestic large aircraft engine bench test and is expected to achieve large-scale application by 2026, reducing fuel consumption by over a thousand tons annually.
Industrial chain synergy and localization substitution
According to data from the China Chemical Industry Information Center, the domestic market size of ethyl silicone oil will reach 6.8 billion yuan by 2025, with the aerospace sector accounting for 18% of the market. Domestic enterprises accelerate technological breakthroughs: Chengguang New Materials has developed "aerospace grade ultra pure ethyl silicone oil" with a purity of 99.999%, breaking foreign monopolies; Hesheng Silicon Industry has built the world's first 10000 ton continuous production line for vinyl silicone oil (key intermediate of ethyl silicone oil), reducing costs by 30% compared to imported products. The National Space Administration stated that in the next three years, it will promote the application of ethyl silicone oil in scenarios such as space station life support systems and lunar base construction, and is expected to drive an industrial chain output value of over 20 billion yuan.
Industry experts point out that with the rise of commercial aerospace and low altitude economy, ethyl silicone oil needs to be further optimized for lightweight and rapid curing performance to meet the needs of satellite mass production and high-speed manufacturing of drones.
