From laboratory to 10000 ton production capacity: domestication of ethyl silicone oil accelerates, high-end deep processing becomes the key to victory

As the silicone industry enters a new stage of "deep processing is king", ethyl silicone oil is becoming a touchstone for testing the technical quality of domestic chemical enterprises.
Ethyl silicone oil, chemical name polyethylene siloxane, appears as a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid with a density of 0.95-1.05g/cm ³, a flash point exceeding 265 ℃ (open cup), and a long-term operating temperature range of -70 ℃ to+150 ℃. Compared with ordinary methyl silicone oil, it has better low temperature resistance and lubricity, and is inert to metals, plastics, and rubber. Its electrical insulation performance remains stable in high and low temperature environments - these characteristics make it an ideal substrate for rubber and plastic high-efficiency release agents, precision instrument lubricants, hydraulic oils, and special lubricants.
However, for a long time, the domestic market for ethyl silicone oil has presented a structural contradiction of "saturation at the mid to low end and scarcity at the high end". The total production capacity of ordinary silicone oil products is about 100000 tons, but high-quality specialty silicone oil still relies on imports. Based on data from 2024, the market size of ethyl hydrogen silicone oil in China reached 274 million yuan, with a global market size of 1.092 billion yuan. It is expected that the global market size will climb to 1.865 billion yuan by 2030, with almost all growth space pointing towards high-end and specialized directions.
The breakthrough on the production side is accelerating. The current mainstream process is to react chloroethane with magnesium metal to produce Grignard reagent, which is obtained by hydrolysis condensation, molecular rearrangement, and vacuum distillation using ethyl orthosilicate as raw material; It can also be prepared by direct hydrolysis and condensation of diethyldichlorosilane and triethylchlorosilane, followed by molecular rearrangement. Domestic enterprises such as Xinyuan Chemical (Shandong) have obtained 20 national invention patents in the field of ultra-low temperature resistant ethyl silicone oil and fluorinated silicone oil, becoming the only high-tech enterprise in China with a full industry chain of fluorinated silicone materials.
On the downstream application end, the imagination space of ethyl silicone oil is far from reaching its peak. In May 2026, listed company New Yaqiang (603155. SH) explicitly stated that its products such as phenyl silicone oil and vinyl silicone oil can be applied in the field of liquid cooled silicone oil, and the explosion of liquid cooling technology may open up another incremental market for ethyl silicone oil. At the same time, Jiangxi Blue Star Spark Organic Silicon has recently obtained a patent for the preparation method of low viscosity vinyl silicone oil, and Yunnan Nengtou Silicon Materials has achieved a production capacity of 5000 tons/year of low ring vinyl silicone oil - the entire organic silicon industry chain is shifting from "scale expansion" to "quality winning".
It can be foreseen that whoever can take the lead in purity control, low-temperature performance optimization, and compound application development of ethyl silicone oil will occupy the high ground in the next round of competition for deep processing of organosilicon.
