Green transformation of ethyl silicone oil production process under environmental regulations

The global VOCs control is becoming stricter (such as the EU REACH regulation requiring benzene emissions in organic silicon production to be less than 10mg/m ³), forcing the industry to upgrade its processes. The traditional method uses concentrated sulfuric acid to catalyze hydrolysis, producing a large amount of waste acid (about 1.5 tons of waste acid per ton of product). The new process adopts solid acid catalysts (such as sulfonic acid resin) and membrane separation technology to achieve zero discharge of waste acid, while shortening the reaction time from 8 hours to 3 hours.


In addition, bio based ethyl silicone oil has become a research and development hotspot. Ethanol produced from corn stover fermentation is used as raw material to synthesize ethyl silicone oil precursor through Grignard reaction, which can reduce carbon footprint by 40%. A certain enterprise has built a thousand ton bio based production line, and its products have passed the EU ECOCERT certification, with a premium of 20%.
