Biobased organic silicon release agents achieve mass production, green manufacturing opens up a new era in the industry

In December 2025, a domestic research team announced the successful development of the world's first bio based organosilicon release agent based on plant-based monomers, and achieved large-scale production. This technology converts cellulose from agricultural waste such as corn stover and sugarcane bagasse into siloxane precursors, combined with a new catalytic system, resulting in a bio based content of over 60% in the product and a 75% reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional petroleum based products. This breakthrough not only provides a low-carbon transformation path for the release agent industry, but also marks a new level of technological autonomy for China in the field of high-end organic silicon materials.

Technological Breakthrough: From "Oil Dependence" to "Plant Empowerment"
Traditional silicone release agents rely heavily on chlorosilane monomers extracted from petroleum for production, with a carbon emission of 3.2 tons per ton of product. Biobased technology uses enzymatic hydrolysis chemical coupling process to convert glucose units in plants into cyclic siloxane intermediates, which are then hydrolyzed and condensed to form long-chain structures. The head of the research team introduced: "We have developed a dedicated catalyst that improves the reaction efficiency to 98% without the need for high temperature and high pressure conditions. The annual production capacity of a single production line can reach 5000 tons." After testing, the product's performance indicators such as peel strength stability and temperature resistance (-50 ℃ to 250 ℃) have reached the international advanced level and have passed the EU REACH and US FDA certifications.

Application scenario: Cross border penetration from packaging to new energy
The environmental advantages of bio based release agents are driving their accelerated replacement of traditional products. In the field of food packaging, after a leading enterprise adopted this material, the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) content in the coating of its paper cups decreased to below 0.01mg/m ², meeting the requirements of the EU's "zero plastic" regulation; In the field of new energy, bio based release agents have been applied to lithium battery separator coating, and their low migration characteristics have increased the battery cycle life by 15%. They have passed rigorous testing by a leading domestic power battery enterprise. In addition, the application research of this material in high-end scenarios such as medical consumables and electronic components has also made progress, and it is expected that the market size will exceed 1 billion yuan by 2026.

Industry Impact: Standard Setting and Collaborative Acceleration of the Industry Chain
In order to standardize the biobased organic silicon market, the China Organic Silicon Industry Association has initiated the compilation of group standards, focusing on key indicators such as biobased content calculation methods and carbon footprint accounting rules. At the same time, multiple agricultural enterprises have reached cooperation with material manufacturers to build a closed-loop industrial chain of "waste recycling monomer production terminal application". Experts predict that with technological iteration and the emergence of economies of scale, the cost of bio based release agents will be on par with petroleum based products by 2027, driving the global release agent market towards a green transformation.
