Deep integration of industry, academia and research drives innovation, setting a new benchmark for the rise of organic silicon industry clusters

In December 2025, the organic silicon industry received two heavyweight news: Yongxiu Yunshan Economic Development Zone was selected as a benchmark case for national new industrial agglomeration, and the joint laboratory of organic silicon resin jointly built by Hubei Longsheng Sihai and Hangzhou Normal University was officially unveiled. These two incidents indicate that China's organic silicon industry is shifting from scale expansion to innovation driven development, and the collaborative ecosystem between industry, academia, and research is accelerating its formation.


Cluster effect: Yongxiu builds a "hundred billion level" organic silicon base
As a national demonstration base for the new industrial organic silicon industry, Yongxiu Yunshan Economic Development Zone has gathered over 160 upstream and downstream enterprises, forming a complete industrial chain from metal silicon smelting, monomer synthesis to terminal applications. By 2025, the production of organic silicon monomers in the park will account for 12% of the national total, while the production of silicone oil will reach 14%. Over 1000 downstream products will be developed. Its successful experience has been summarized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as a three pronged approach of "precise positioning, chain investment attraction, and innovation empowerment":


Accurate positioning: With organosilicon as the leading industry, rejecting the "big and comprehensive" model, focusing on high-end silicone resin, silicone rubber and other sub sectors;
Chain investment promotion: Establish a 1 billion yuan industrial guidance fund, launch "organic silicon loan" financial products, and attract leading enterprises such as Spark Industrial Park and Cabot to land;
Innovation Empowerment: Jointly establish key laboratories with Zhejiang University and Hangzhou Normal University, promote technology transfer cooperation among 5 local enterprises, and increase the number of new patent authorizations by 40% year-on-year in 2025.
Technological breakthrough: school enterprise cooperation solves the bottleneck problem
The joint laboratory between Hubei Longsheng Sihai and Hangzhou Normal University focuses on the research and development of high-end products such as MQ resin and self-adhesive liquid silicone rubber. According to Lai Guocan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Materials and Chemical Engineering at Hangzhou Normal University, both parties have overcome the localization technology of organic silicone adhesive for mica tape, and the product performance has reached the international leading level, with a domestic market share exceeding 60%. In addition, the laboratory is also developing cutting-edge materials such as low dielectric constant silicone resin for 5G communication and silicone oil coating for lithium battery separators, with an expected industrial application by 2026.


Talent echelon: dual mentor system to cultivate "craftsman type" talents
Industry university research cooperation not only promotes technological upgrading, but also reshapes the talent structure of the industry. Taking Yongxiu Yunshan Economic Development Zone as an example, it has jointly implemented a "dual mentor system" training program with universities such as Wuhan University and Beijing University of Chemical Technology, and has sent more than 500 engineers to participate in enterprise research and development projects. At the same time, the park has established a "Organic Silicon Craftsman College", which has cultivated more than 200 technical experts at or above the provincial level through skills competitions, practical training, and other methods. This tripartite collaboration model of "universities+enterprises+government" has provided the industry with a large number of compound talents who are both knowledgeable in theory and skilled in practice.


Green Transformation: Digital and Low Carbon Dual Wheel Drive
Under the "dual carbon" goal, the organic silicon industry is accelerating its transformation towards green. Yongxiu Yunshan Economic Development Zone promotes energy-saving technologies such as rooftop photovoltaics and waste heat recovery, resulting in a 25% decrease in energy consumption per unit output compared to 2020; Tangshan Sanyou Group has built the country's first organic silicon waste recycling production line, processing 20000 tons of waste silicone annually and reducing carbon emissions by 12000 tons. In terms of digitalization, the "Organic Silicon One Thing" service platform in the park has achieved a 75% reduction in approval time, and multiple enterprises have been selected as provincial-level intelligent factories, resulting in a production efficiency improvement of over 30%.


Industry experts point out that with the deep integration of industry, academia and research and the continuous release of cluster effects, China's organic silicon industry is expected to achieve a global value chain climb before 2030, transforming from a "follower" to a "leader".
