Green technology promotes the upgrading of the ethyl silicone oil industry, and the market share of environmentally friendly products has exceeded 35%

On January 26, 2026, the China Organic Silicon Industry Association released data showing that by 2025, the domestic ethyl silicone oil industry will achieve a reduction of 120000 tons of carbon dioxide through process innovation, and the market share of environmentally friendly products will increase by 27 percentage points compared to 2020, reaching 35%. This transformation marks a crucial step for the industry to shift from scale expansion to quality-oriented development.


The traditional production process of ethyl silicone oil requires the use of volatile organic compounds such as chloroethane, resulting in approximately 3 tons of chlorine containing wastewater per ton of product. In recent years, the industry has increased the utilization rate of raw materials from 78% to 92% through iterative catalytic hydrolysis technology, while adopting a closed-loop distillation system to recover solvents, resulting in a 31% reduction in energy consumption per unit product. The person in charge of a national level green factory revealed that its newly built production line has achieved zero wastewater discharge, with a waste gas treatment efficiency of 99.7%, and the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) content of its products is less than 1/5 of the EU REACH regulation limit.


The changes in market demand are also significant. By 2025, the demand for environmentally friendly ethyl silicone oil in high-end fields such as electronics and healthcare will increase by 45% year-on-year, driving enterprises to accelerate product iteration. Taking medical grade ethyl silicone oil as an example, by introducing biocompatibility modification technology, its impurity content has been controlled below 0.001%, and it has been successfully applied in artificial joint lubricants and drug sustained-release carriers. The new material has reduced the incidence of postoperative complications by 60% and shortened the recovery period of patients by nearly one-third, "said the orthopedic director of a tertiary hospital


At the policy level, the revised "Organic Silicon Industry Pollutant Emission Standards" by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment in 2025 explicitly require that all new projects must adopt green production processes from 2027 onwards. Industry analysts point out that with the advancement of the "dual carbon" target, enterprises with low-carbon technology reserves will have a competitive advantage. It is expected that by 2030, environmentally friendly ethyl silicone oil will completely replace traditional products, driving the output value of the entire industry chain to exceed 20 billion yuan.
