A joint materials science laboratory of a tertiary hospital released a clinical research report today, confirming that a new medical grade ethyl silicone oil lubricating coating can significantly reduce the friction coefficient of minimally invasive surgical instruments, reduce the insertion resistance of instruments by 67%, and reduce the postoperative tissue damage rate by 42%.


This coating uses molecular level surface modification technology to form a dense lubricating film of ethyl silicone oil on the surface of medical devices, with a thickness of only one thousandth of a human hair. Research has shown that in laparoscopic surgery simulation tests, the use of this coating improves instrument operation fluency by three times and shortens surgery time by an average of 18 minutes. The low friction characteristic makes fine operations more precise, especially in protecting fragile tissues such as blood vessels and nerves, "said the chief surgeon


It is worth noting that the material has been certified by ISO 10993 for biocompatibility and can maintain stable lubrication performance for 12 months in simulated body fluid environments. At present, several domestic medical device companies are promoting its industrial application, and the first endoscopic catheter equipped with this technology is expected to be launched in the second half of 2026. Market research institutions predict that with the increasing popularity of minimally invasive surgery, the market size of medical lubricating grade ethyl silicone oil will reach 850 million yuan in 2028, with a compound annual growth rate of over 21%.
