New breakthrough in low-temperature lubricating materials: Ethyl silicone oil helps upgrade the application of high-end equipment in extremely cold scenarios

Since 2026, new progress has been made in the field of special lubricating materials in China. With its gel point characteristics as low as -70 ℃, ethyl silicone oil is becoming a core supporting material in the fields of aerospace, polar scientific research, and industrial equipment in cold regions. Compared to traditional dimethyl silicone oil, the low-temperature resistance of ethyl silicone oil is improved by more than 40%, and the working temperature range can cover -70 ℃ to 150 ℃, perfectly adapting to the lubrication needs of equipment in extreme low-temperature environments.
Based on recent industry feedback, several precision instrument manufacturing companies in China have used ethyl silicone oil as the core damping fluid and instrument oil for meteorological monitoring equipment and aviation shock absorption systems operating in high-altitude cold regions, solving the industry pain points of lubricant solidification and equipment operation lag in low-temperature environments for a long time. The technical director of the relevant chemical enterprise introduced that ethyl silicone oil also has the characteristics of low surface tension and strong chemical stability, and can be miscible with mineral oil and synthetic oil at will. It has also been implemented in batches in hydraulic systems, fiber processing, tire manufacturing and other scenarios, effectively improving the operational stability of equipment in a wide temperature range.
With the upgrading of domestic special equipment towards full territory and climate use, the market demand for ethyl silicone oil continues to rise. In the first half of 2026, the domestic production capacity of ethyl silicone oil increased by 27% year-on-year. The downstream application scenarios have further expanded from traditional electrical insulation and precision lubrication to emerging fields such as thermal grease for aerospace electronic equipment and high-end cosmetic raw materials, becoming one of the fastest-growing categories in the silicone oil sub segment.
