New breakthrough in polar equipment upgrade, ethyl silicone oil helps stabilize the operation of equipment in extremely cold working conditions

Recently, there have been new developments in the field of supporting materials for polar scientific research equipment in China. A batch of polar wind turbine gearboxes using ethyl silicone oil as the core lubricating medium have achieved zero fault operation during six consecutive months of extreme cold testing in the Arctic Circle. Test data shows that under extreme low temperature conditions of -62 ℃, the ethyl silicone oil lubricant still maintains stable flow performance, and there is no problem of solidification or lubrication failure of ordinary methyl silicone oil at low temperatures, successfully ensuring the normal operation of gearbox transmission components.


As a special category of organic silicon materials, ethyl silicone oil is modified by replacing some methyl groups with ethyl groups in its molecular structure. With the help of the steric hindrance effect of ethyl groups, it effectively inhibits the low-temperature aggregation of molecular chains, and extends the stable low-temperature limit of the product to -70 ℃, which is much better than the low-temperature limit of conventional methyl silicone oil around -50 ℃. In addition to the polar wind farm scenery, this material has been widely used in the lubrication and insulation packaging of precision instruments and aerospace low-temperature components, playing a key role in cutting-edge scenarios such as superconducting equipment low-temperature systems and polar scientific research station operation and maintenance support. Industry experts say that with the rapid development of extreme environmental exploration in China, the market demand for ethyl silicone oil is continuously increasing, becoming one of the key basic materials supporting the localization of special working condition equipment in China.
