On August 26, 2026, following the strategic collaboration between two major new materials enterprises in Anhui for electronic-grade vinyl silicone oil earlier in the year, the local silicone industry in Anhui has made new progress. Several local fine chemical enterprises, in partnership with research institutions, have launched a technical breakthrough project for high-end electronic-grade ethyl silicone oil. Targeting the core raw material needs of cutting-edge applications such as AI chip packaging, IGBT thermal conductive gels, and aerospace special lubricants, the initiative aims to achieve localized mass production of high-purity ethyl silicone oil by 2027.
It is understood that electronic-grade ethyl silicone oil used in high-end industrial applications has stringent technical specifications, requiring a total content of sodium and potassium ions below 0.5 ppm, D4/D5 cyclic residue controlled under 50 ppm, and viscosity fluctuations between batches stabilized within ±3%. Additionally, it must pass international quality system certifications such as IATF 16949 for the automotive industry and ISO 13485 for medical devices. Previously, such products were long monopolized by international giants, not only commanding high prices but also requiring delivery lead times exceeding six months.
In this joint R&D initiative involving Anhui-based enterprises, a dedicated high-purity production line will be established, incorporating ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) for comprehensive process monitoring to ensure product performance meets JEDEC's electronic material standards. Compared to imported counterparts, domestically produced electronic-grade ethyl silicate oil will not only reduce delivery lead times to 7-15 days post-volume production but also achieve approximately 22% lower overall costs, providing more stable supply chain support for photovoltaic, new energy vehicle, and semiconductor packaging enterprises densely clustered in the Yangtze River Delta region.
The Yangtze River Delta region currently accounts for nearly 40% of China's downstream production capacity for ethyl silicone oil. This technological breakthrough by Anhui enterprises will further enhance the domestic industrial chain layout of ethyl silicone oil. Unlike the price wars in the traditional general-purpose silicone oil market, the competition in the high-end ethyl silicone oil sector has shifted from "scale competition" to "purity competition and scenario adaptability." With the gradual implementation of green synthesis processes and precise molecular structure control technologies, China's ethyl silicone oil industry will achieve more breakthroughs in high-end niche segments, laying a solid foundation for the supply chain security of domestic advanced manufacturing.
