Breaking the Low-Temperature Limit: Domestic Ethyl Silicone Oil Achieves Stable Operation at -130°C

Hits: 349 img

Recently, news emerged from several specialized silicone production enterprises in Hubei that, after nearly three years of technological research, domestically produced ultra-low-temperature ethyl silicone oil products have achieved performance upgrades. The specially formulated grade can maintain stable liquid flow properties in extreme low-temperature environments as low as -130°C, completely breaking the long-standing reliance on imported materials for high-end extreme-cold working condition specialty lubricants.

As a specialized core material in the silicone field, ethyl silicate oil boasts exceptional low-temperature flexibility far surpassing that of conventional methyl silicate oil. Standard-grade products remain fluid at -70°C, while upgraded special formulations significantly expand low-temperature adaptability. Industry test data shows that the enhanced product exhibits less than 30% viscosity increase in extreme cold conditions compared to regular methyl silicate oil, effectively addressing the industry pain points of traditional silicone oils—equipment lubrication stalling and hydraulic transmission failure in ultra-low-temperature environments.

The product has now undergone multiple rounds of scenario validation in aerospace and polar scientific expeditions, successfully applied to core components such as spacecraft cryogenic valve lubrication systems and meteorological sensor protection for polar drilling equipment. With its strong chemical inertness, non-corrosiveness against metals and rubber/plastic materials, and compatibility with mineral oil and synthetic oil, the material can be directly integrated into existing industrial systems without requiring extensive equipment modifications, significantly reducing the application and retrofitting costs for ultra-low temperature scenarios. Industry forecasts predict that with the development of Arctic shipping routes and the rapid growth of the ultra-low temperature refrigeration industry, the domestic market for ethyl silicone oil in polar industrial applications will maintain a 12% annual growth rate over the next five years, emerging as a new growth highlight in the specialty chemicals sector.
